Here's What's Happening in March...

March 1st: Body Scan Promo

For the month of March, we are offering $10 off the SECA body scan. For $20 you can get a full report on your body fat percentage, fat mass, fat free mass, skeletal mass and a few other components. This summary will give you a baseline of where you are starting your fitness journey and help to guide your next steps.

Email kara@ignitebiofitness.com to schedule your appointment today. To receive the $20 promotion, all appointments must be scheduled by Friday, March 29th.

March 11th: New Climbing Routes Available

Starting Monday, March 11th, we will have new climbing routes available for our climbing wall. Come on in and try them!

As a reminder, Ignite BioFitness' safety orientation must be completed in order to be eligible to climb. Please email kara@ignitebiofitness.com to set up your appointment if you haven't already done so.

March 12th: Group Fitness Schedule Changes

Starting March 12th, while Suzi is recovering from surgery, you will notice her Tuesday and Thursday classes have swapped places, with temporary instructors stepping in during her recovery:

  • Tuesdays at noon will now feature TRX with Tiffany

  • Thursdays at noon will now feature Total Body with Alys

In addition to the above changes, please be aware of the following room changes:

  • Yoga on Tuesday evenings at 5pm will now take place in the spin room

  • POP Pilates and Kickboxing will be held in the group fitness studio.

March 15th: Submit Your Team for Dodgeball

We will be hosting our first ever Dodgeball Tournament in April!

If you're interested in participating in our week-long, lunchtime tournament, submit your team roster of 6-8 players to Sung@ignitebiofitness.com by Friday, March 15th. Please also list the team captain who will be responsible for communicating all event updates.

Game play is *tentatively* planned for the week of April 1-5th from 12-1pm on the basketball court between 1505 O'Brien Drive and 1525 O'Brien Dr.

March 26th: Barbell Basics with Sung

Build your strength from the ground up in our barbell lifting series! These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell and want to learn how to do lifts properly under the watchful eye of an instructor.

This month's one-hour session will be Tuesday, March 26th at 12pm in the spin room. Sung will take you through an introductory class on the press and other press variations, where you'll build your overhead strength through a series of progressions.

There is no cost for this event; however, spots are limited to 8 people.

We're excited to share that our new Wellness Room is now open! Located on the second floor, the Wellness Room is a private space our members can reserve for up to an hour of meditation and recovery. More details below.

Here's What's Happening in February...

February 1st: Appointments Now Available for Wellness Room

As of February 1st, we will now be offering appointments for the Wellness Room, located on the second floor.

The Wellness Room is a private space for our members to enjoy for up to an hour of meditation and recovery. We've also added a Theragun percussive massager and Normatec air pressure massager boots to the space as additional methods of muscle recovery.

For reservations, click on the new "Recovery" tab on our website or ask the front desk for details and availability.

February 6th: Paws for Purple Hearts is Back

Paws for Purple Hearts, a non-profit that provides service dogs and canine-assisted therapy programs for Veterans and Active-Duty Service Members, will be making a reappearance at Ignite BioFitness on Tuesday, February 6th from 11am to 12:30pm to allow their assistance dogs to train in a gym environment.

Please be advised that you may want to consider a different gym time during this small window if you have any allergies or anxieties related to dogs.

February 13th: Barbell Lifting Series - Deadlifts Class

Build your strength from the ground up in our barbell lifting series! These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell and want to learn how to do lifts properly under the watchful eye of an instructor.

February is heart health month, and what better way to spice up your Valentine's Day than a new cardio class that is sure to get your heart pumping?

Join Laam on Wednesday, February 14th at 5:30pm for a special Cardio Sculpt class (replacing Zumba for the day). This 45-minute class is sure to keep you moving while focusing on core and strength.

gRoup Fitness Challenge

Kick off your New Year by joining Ignite's flavorful class offerings! Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 participants in January.

  • Class types include Yoga, TRX, Boot Camp, Zumba, Pilates and more.

  • We offer a variety of daily classes at noon, as well as 9 evening classes Monday through Thursday, with several 30-minute classes available.

  • Please note that class sizes are limited, so priority goes to those who sign up in advance. You may be turned away if the class exceeds the limit.

December 4th-8th: Ignite Climbing Competition

Ignite's 2nd Annual climbing competition will take place from December 4th-8th.

Please note that the wall will be very busy throughout the week and no climbing orientations will be scheduled. We encourage you to cheer on your fellow co-workers, but for safety reasons please stay out of the climbing area, as only up to five participants are allowed in the climbing area at a time.

Best of luck to all the teams that entered. Team winners will be announced in next month's gym update!

December 12th: Barbell Basics with Kara

Looking to improve your overhead strength with the barbell? Join Kara on Tuesday, December 12th at 12pm in the spin room, where she will take you through the basics of the press (military press) and other variations such as the push press, power jerk, etc.

In this one-hour session, Kara will give you an overview of proper barbell technique and provide feedback on your form.

The cost per participant is $20 and spots are limited to 8 people. Sign-ups open one week before the event.

December 13th: K-POP Dance Class

We will now be including K-Pop on our regular group fitness calendar once a month in place of Zumba. Join us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month for our K-Pop themed dance cardio fitness class. This fun and energetic 45-minute class will keep you moving to the beat of popular Korean music.

November 2023 Update

November is almost here, and we have lot of exciting updates for you!

But first, please note Ignite BioFitness' upcoming holiday schedule:

  • November 10th: We will be closed for Veteran's Day.

  • November 22nd: We will have reduced hours from 6am-3pm.

  • November 23rd-24th: We will be closed for Thanksgiving.

There will be no group classes during the week of Thanksgiving (Nov 20th-24th). We hope you have a fun and relaxing holiday!

Upcoming Fat Loss Webinar: Quick Survey!

Ignite BioFitness is planning to host a Fat Loss Webinar in December, and we'd like to know which date/time works best for you.

If you're interested in this one-hour session, click here to vote for your preferred date and time. We'll select a date based on survey responses.

November 7th: Kickboxing Class Moving to 5pm

Please note a schedule change to Tuesday's Kickboxing group fitness class starting November 7th: the class has been moved from 4pm to 5pm, and it will now be a 45-minute class located in the spin room. Yoga and Kickboxing will take place simultaneously from 5 to 5:45pm. Pick your preferred class and sign up in advance.

November 13th: New Climbing Routes

We'll be updating our climbing routes in November, and new routes will be available starting Monday, November 13th.

If you're interested in trying out the new routes but have not yet completed the climbing orientation, please reach out to kara@ignitebiofitness.com to set up an appointment.

November 14th: Barbell Lifting Series - The Romanian Dead Lift

Join Sung on Tuesday, November 14th at 12pm for an introduction to the Romanian Deadlift (RDL) with the barbell for glute strength.

In this one-hour session, Sung will give you an overview of how to perform the RDL correctly, with feedback on your form.

The cost per participant is $20 and spots are limited to 8 people. Sign-ups open one week before the event.

November 15th: K-POP with Laam

K-POP is back! Join Laam on Wednesday, November 15th for another flash K-POP dance session (in place of Zumba) at 5:30pm. This fun and energetic 45-minute class will keep you moving to the beat of popular Korean music.

The last K-POP event sold out quickly, so be sure to sign up in advance to reserve your spot!

November 30th: Deadline for Team Climbing Competition

Ignite BioFitness will be hosting its second annual team climbing event from December 4th-8th. This week-long team climbing challenge will consist of routes with a designated point system, and each lap completed will receive points. Points will be tallied daily and averaged based on the team size.

If you're interested in putting a company team together, please email kara@ignitebiofitness.com to register your team.

The deadline for team entries is Wednesday, November 30th. If a team member has not yet completed the climbing orientation, they must do so by December 1st.

If you'd like to participate and don't have a company team, Kara will help place you on a team!

October 2023 Update

October is almost here, and we have lots of exciting news to share this month at Ignite BioFitness.

But first, a big congratulations to Grail, who won our beach volleyball league for the second year in row! The Grail team went undefeated in all seven weeks of game play.

Here's What's Happening in October...

October 2-27: Walktober is Back

It's time to get up and get more steps in for our Walktober Challenge!

From Monday, October 2nd through Friday, October 27th, during your work week, track your steps each week (4 weeks total). We will add up the steps and see who comes out on top! The top three participants will receive prizes.

October 5: Yoga with Sophia

Due to popular demand, we have decided to add Yoga at noon with Sophia on Thursdays for a trial run in October.

The first class will be on Thursday, October 5th at 12pm - class will be held in the spin room and is limited to 6 participants.

If participation remains steady, we will consider keeping it on the group fitness calendar moving forward. This class will take place simultaneously with Suzi's TRX class.

October 11: K-Pop Flash Dance Class

Join Laam on Wednesday, October 11th at 5:30pm for a cardio dance class to K-Pop music (this will replace our usual Zumba class).

This fun and energetic 45-minute class will keep you moving to popular Korean tunes.

Kara Wins Silver at the USA Weightlifting Competition

Kara had a great day on the platform at the USA Weightlifting national event in Pleasanton on September 17th. She made 3 out of 3 attempts in the snatch, finishing with 77 kg (170 lbs), and 2 out of 3 attempts in the clean and jerk, finishing with 88 kg (194 lbs), just barely missing her last attempt with 91 kg (200 lbs).

Overall, she placed 2nd in the Masters division in her weight class, with 3 silver medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and total placing. Sung decided to remove himself from the competition but took over in a coaching role instead.

Congratulations Kara!

September 2023 Update

We hope you're gearing up for some fun over the Labor Day weekend!

On that note, Ignite BioFitness will be closed on Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day. Regular gym hours will resume on Tuesday.

Also, a reminder that Menlo Park Labs is hosting an End of Summer Mixer on September 13th from 3:30-6:00pm, right next door at Eats at 1440 - stop by for some delicious food, drinks and more!

Here's What's Happening in September...

September 20: Fall Into Fitness Challenge

With the summer coming to an end, what better way to maximize your time outdoors than joining Ignite's end of summer outdoor fitness challenge?

On Wednesday, September 20th, grab a friend and head to the tennis court behind 1505 O'Brien Drive. Team entries consist of 2 participants for this energizing 45-minute bodyweight workout lead by Arielle and Tiffany. They will guide you through a circuit that will challenge you and your partner!

Points will be accumulated based on completed repetitions between you and your partner.

Please submit your team entry to kara@ignitebiofitness.com by Friday, September 15th.

September 21: Barbell Back Squats Class

Our Barbell Basics Series is back by popular demand!

Sung will start us off in September with Barbell Back Squats on Thursday, September 21st from 12-1pm. He'll go through an overview of proper squatting technique and give you feedback on your form.

These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell or want to learn how to do the lifts properly under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor.

Ignite Staff on the National Stage

Best of luck to Kara and Sung who will be competing in a USA Weightlifting national event in Pleasanton on September 17th at the Alameda County Fairgrounds!

There are over 700 competitors registered for this Olympic weightlifting event, who will compete in their respective weight classes and age categories.

August 2023 Update

Happy Monday! Let's start off the week with a big congratulations to Avellino Labs, our 2023 Ignite Basketball League Champions! They ranked the highest out of the seven teams that played in this year's league.

Our volleyball league is currently in session, with games on Wednesday evenings from 4-7pm. Come out and support your team on the beach volleyball courts!

Here's What's Happening in August...

New Wednesdays 12pm Class: Pilates HIIT

We've added a new class and instructor to Wednesdays at 12pm starting on August 16th. Join Sophia for a mat Pilates HIIT class, where high-intensity interval training, core strength and Pilates methods are combined for a great low-impact workout on the mat.

August 24: Functional Fitness Class with Sung

Come join Sung on Thursday, August 24th at 12pm as he takes you through 45-minutes of various strength exercises in a circuit style format that is sure to keep you moving and get your heart pumping.

August 30th: Group Fitness Sunset Social

Join us on on the roof top Wednesday, August 30th from 6:30- 7:30pm for some light refreshments and a chance to mix and mingle with the group fitness community. All group fitness class participants are welcome!

New Climbing Wall Routes

We updated the climbing wall routes at the end of July! Come give the new routes a try and let us know what you think.

Phasing Out Morning Classes in September

As of right now, we are planning to discontinue our morning classes starting in September due to low participation.

We'll be monitoring registrations throughout the month - if we notice a considerable increase in August, we may consider keeping the morning schedule into September.

Instructor Updates

  • Laam is back starting on August 16th - on Tuesdays she'll be teaching Kickboxing at 4pm and POP Pilates at 4:30pm, and Wednesdays Core Concepts at 5pm and Zumba at 5:30pm.

  • Alys continues to teach Circl Mobility until Wednesday, August 9th and will be taking over Monday Boot Camp classes after August 21st (starting at 4:30pm for two back-to-back 30-minute classes).

  • Arielle will be embarking on a new journey in the nursing field as a resident at Stanford Hospital next month, with her last regular fitness class on Monday, August 21st. We wish her the best and hope she'll return to sub our group fitness classes on occasion. Her infectious energy will be missed!

July 7th: Submit Teams for Ignite Beach Volleyball League

We have extended the team entry deadline for beach volleyball until Friday, July 7th. Please submit your company team to Sung (sung@ignitebiofitness.com) by then.

We anticipate the league to start the week of July 17th as long as we have a minimum of 4 teams entered. Sung will update all teams with the league schedule by July 14th.

July 11th: Outdoor Total Body with Suzi

Join us on Tuesday, July 11th for a 45-minute outdoor Total Body class with Suzi. Suzi's classes are in high demand, so make sure to sign up and reserve your spot for some fun in the sun!

Don't forget to bring your water bottle and sun protection as you see fit. Limited shade will be available.

Join us for CIRCL Mobility by Zumba in July with Alys, Wednesdays at noon. This class will replace POP Pilates for the month (with a planned return in August).

In this 45-minute class you will focus on your flexibility, breathwork and mobility to help release stress, restore your range of motion and allow you to move better.

Tour de Menlo Park Labs is Back

Are you a bike commuter? Do you enjoy a workout on the Peloton? Join this year's virtual "Tour de Menlo Park Labs" July 17th through July 21st!

All you have to do is keep track of your cycling mileage for the week, then check in daily with your results. Prizes will be awarded to our top 3 competitors (both men and women).

June 2023 Update

Hey everyone!

Summer is almost here, so it's a great time to get some exercise in the fresh air. With that in mind, we're thrilled to share that you can now play Pickleball on the tennis courts!

Try this popular low-impact paddle sport with a friend. You don't need your own gear - you can pick up paddles and balls at the front desk.

Please also note we'll be closed on July 3rd and July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. We'll reopen on Wednesday, July 5th with regular hours (6am to 8pm).

June 12th-16th: Summer Swim Spectacular

Want to make a splash in your swim routine? Join us for our Summer Swim Spectacular the week of June 12-16. We will be awarding prizes to the top 3 men and women swimmers who accumulate the most laps throughout the week.

Report your laps (25 yards - the length of the pool - will be counted as a lap) to the front desk and make it count. Don't forget to sign up for your lap swim appointments throughout the week!

June 12th: Urban Kick Flash Class with Arielle

Join Arielle on Monday, June 12th at 5pm for a 45-minute kickboxing class. Move your body with some kick and punching sequences that will get your heart pumping and will elevate your energy at the end of your work day.

June 21st: Rooftop POP Pilates with Laam

On Wednesday, June 21st at 12pm, start your summer off right with a 45-minute, outdoor Pilates class set to music with a view. Laam will take you through a series of bodyweight movements and test your core strength.

Shade is limited, so make sure to bring extra sun protection (hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.) and water.
