May 2023 Update

Hey everyone!

Now that the sun is out, it's time to get outside and take advantage of the Menlo Park Labs sports courts. Enjoy a tennis match with a colleague or some beach volleyball during lunch, or even just shoot some solo hoops. Volleyballs and basketballs are available to check out at the front desk. 

Speaking of the front desk... please welcome to our newest team member, Elijah! Elijah will be greeting you at the front desk in the afternoons and can help you with any of your gym needs. 

Please also note that Ignite BioFitness will be closed on Monday, May 29th for Memorial Day.

Here's What's Happening in May...

MAY 4th: Basketball League Kickoff

Come cheer on your company team in our Ignite Basketball league!

Games will be every Thursday starting May 4th at 4pm at the basketball courts. The courts are located between Synthekine and GRAIL (between 1505 and 1525 O'Brien Drive).

Prizes will be awarded to the league champions!

Stop by the front desk to get more information about the game schedule.

May 15th: Poolside Yoga with Asia

Join us poolside on Monday, May 15th at 12:15pm for a 45-minute outdoor yoga class with Asia. Breathe in fresh air and breathe out your stress as Asia takes you through various movements to promote relaxation and balance while building your strength and flexibility.

Make sure to plan ahead and bring your sun protection (hats, sunglasses, sunscreen) and water bottle. Space is limited.

May 18th: Barbell Lifting Series - Snatch with Kara

In May, Kara will take you through the barbell progressions for the snatch, one of two Olympic movements in weightlifting. Learn the basics of the lift under the watchful eye of an experienced lifter.

This month's one-hour session will be on Thursday, May 18th at 12pm. Kara will give you an overview of the proper technique and provide feedback on your form.

The cost per participant is $20 and space is limited to 8 people.

This will be the last barbell strength class until the fall, so come and join us!

NEW Tuesday Class: Mobility Matters

Starting in May, Tiffany will introduce a new class on Tuesday mornings in place of Boot Camp II called Mobility Matters. This class will focus on stretching different areas of the body to help you feel your best for the day.

Tiffany's back-to-back classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays are a great way to get moving in the mornings before work!

New Wednesday Class: pop Pilates

Starting in May, join us Wednesdays at noon for Pop Pilates with Laam. Feel the rhythm as you move through Pilates positions set to music on the mat. This is a full-body, equipment-free class that not only challenges your strength but tests your flexibility as well.

Here's What's Happening in April...

Ignite Basketball League Starting in May

Are you interested in putting a company basketball team together for some friendly competition in Menlo Park Labs? Please submit your team rosters and team captain to Sung (Sung@ignitebiofitness.com) by Wednesday, April 12th.

Starting in early May, each team will be scheduled to play once a week. Prizes will be awarded to the league champions!

Reach out to Sung for any questions or for more league info.

April 13th: Barbell Lifting Series - Bench Press with Sung

In April, we plan to highlight one of the most popular powerlifting disciplines: the bench press. Learn the basics of the bench press under the watchful eye of an instructor.

This month's one-hour session will be Thursday, April 13th at 12pm. Sung will give you an overview of proper technique and provide feedback on your form.

The cost per participant is $20 and spots are limited to 6 people.

April 18th: April Agility Challenge

Are you looking to put your speed, agility and mental sharpness to the test? Come by the gym on Tuesday, April 18th between 8am and 4pm to try out our agility ladder fitness challenge with varying levels of difficulty. Advance by completing each pattern without making any mistakes. The top 3 participants will receive prizes!

New Friday Class: Pilates Fusion

Starting in April, join us on Fridays at noon for Pilates Fusion, a twist on traditional mat pilates. Mia will take you through 45 minutes of core strength and lower body movements that will help increase your flexibility. There's no better way to finish off your work week!

Mar 16th: Barbell Lifting Series - Barbell Cleans with Kara

Build your strength from the ground up in our new barbell lifting series! These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell and want to learn how to do lifts properly under the watchful eye of an instructor.

This month's one-hour session will be Thursday, March 16th at 12pm, featuring the CLEAN. Kara will give you an overview of proper barbell clean technique and provide feedback on your form.

The cost per participant is $20 and spots are limited to 8 people.

Get Moving in the Morning

Our morning classes are back in March!

  • Tuesdays: Join Tiffany for two back-to-back 30-minute Boot Camp classes starting at 7am. Try just one, or stack them for a full hour sweat session to start your day.

  • Thursdays: Join Tiffany again for 30 minutes of Core and More at 7:30am, followed by 30 minutes of Dumbbells at Dawn at 8am.

To add a little motivation to get out of bed, we will award prizes to our top 3 morning participants for the month!

ADD steam to your recovery routine

We are pleased to announce that the steam rooms are back and ready for your recovery needs. There are many benefits to adding steam to your recovery, such as improvement in your body's circulation, skin health and joint stiffness, just to name a few.

Check it out and see if it's the right fit for your recovery routine. No appointments are required for steam room use.

Lap Swim Appointments Are Back

Our outdoor salt water heated pool is a great way to move! Please make sure to sign up in advance for your one-hour appointment time, as they are limited to two swimmers per hour. If an appointment time is unavailable to book online, that means the slot has been booked for the hour.

Feb 14th: UrbanKick Kickboxing Classes

February is heart health month, and what better way to get that heart pumping on Valentine's Day than by joining our flash Urban Kick kickboxing classes.

Join Arielle for two back-to-back 30-minute classes on Tuesday, February 14th starting at 4pm. She will take you through a series of punch and kick sequences to the beat.

Feb 21st: New Climbing Routes Are Available

The climbing wall will be closed on Friday, February 17th for maintenance and a wall reset. Make sure to come in and check out the new routes starting Tuesday, February 21st.

SPIN CLASSES ARE BACK IN FEBRUARY

We'll be welcoming Peggy back to our group fitness schedule for the month of February! Peggy will be taking over Laam's classes this month with two 45-minute spin classes at 12pm and 5:30pm on Wednesdays.

Buy One Body Scan, Get One Free

If you purchase a body scan ($30) by January 31st, you will receive a second one free (must be used by December 15th, 2023). This will enable you to see what changes you've made between your first and second scan. Body scans look at your fat mass, fat free mass, skeletal mass and other stats.

Jan 11th: Nutrition Lunch & Learn on Brain Health

Join us on Wednesday, January 11th at 12pm for a virtual Nutrition Lunch and Learn with Peggy. She'll be discussing ways to boost your brain's health through better nutrition.

The online presentation will be 30 minutes, followed by a 10-15 minute Q&A.

Join us on Wednesday, January 25th for an introduction to Pound. Pound is a full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Team Personalis Wins December Climbing Competition

Congratulations to Team Personalis on winning our climbing competition in December! Thanks to all the teams that participated and brought some amazing competitive energy to the wall - we had a great turnout for our first-ever climbing event. We're looking forward to making it into an annual event!

And finally, start out your new year stress-free by booking time in our wellness room to focus on your active recovery, meditation, or focused breathing. The wellness room is equipped with lacrosse balls, foam rollers, and a stretch table. We have created a quiet atmosphere for those looking for a private space to focus on the mind, body, or spirit.

December 2022 Update

We hope you had a joyful and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday! Check out our December update to get the latest on what's happening at the gym next month.

Please note that Ignite BioFitness will be closed for the holidays December 23th through January 2nd, with reduced hours on December 22nd from 6am to 3pm. We will reopen with regular hours on January 3rd.

Group Fitness classes will be cancelled the week of December 19th through December 22nd.

Come join us on Wednesday, December 14th at 12pm and 5:30pm for a BollyX class with Laam. BollyX is a Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines high and low intensity cardio movements through its dynamic choreography. Bring a friend and try something new!

2. Sign Up for Personal Training

Ignite BioFitness' personal training rates will be increasing in the New Year... but if you sign up before January 1st, you can still benefit from our current rates!

All personal training purchases before January 1st will also receive a complimentary fitness assessment ($30 value), which includes a body composition scan.

3. 2023 Barbell Lifting Series

Build your strength in the New Year with our new barbell lifting series! Starting in January, we will be hosting a lifting class once a month focusing on some basic barbell movements and proper lifting technique.

Kara or Sung, both experienced Olympic weightlifters and lifting coaches, will be teaching the 1-hour class. All dates and monthly strength focus will be listed on our online class calendar. Spots will be limited to 8 participants per class.

There will be a $20 fee per class with a 48-hr cancellation in effect.

Here is a sneak peek into the first quarter of 2023:

  • January - Back Squat

  • February - Deadlift

  • March - Cleans

November 2022 Updates

With the holidays coming up, now is the perfect time to turn up the heat on your workout routine! Check out our November update to get the latest on what's happening at the gym next month.

Please note that Ignite BioFitness will be closed November 24-25 for Thanksgiving, with reduced hours on November 23 from 6am to 3pm, and no group fitness classes during the week. We'll resume our normal schedule Monday, November 28.

Also, please note that the pool heater and steam room are currently out of order. We'll let you know when they're back in service. Thanks for your patience.

2. December Team Climbing Challenge

Congratulations to our winners for last month's Walktober challenge, and thanks to all those who participated in this year's event!

Our next event will be a weeklong team climbing challenge December 5-9, where climbers will receive points based on the routes climbed and laps completed during the week. Points will be tallied per team for final results.

Interested in putting a team together for the climbing challenge? Email Kara at kara@ignitebiofitness.com to add your company/team to the list. If you'd like to participate and don't have a company team, Kara will help place you on a team!

3. New Climbing Routes Available

Our climbing routes have been updated and we have 10 new routes to explore. If you're a new climber or have not yet completed our mandatory climbing orientation prior to use, please email Kara at kara@ignitebiofitness.com to set up your appointment.
