Summer is almost here, and we've got lots of exciting updates this month, include a brand-new way to reserve sports courts!

Please note that on Juneteenth (June 19th), we will have reduced gym hours from 6 am to 3 pm. Regular hours will resume on Thursday, June 20th.

Here's What's Happening in June...

NEW: Sports Courts Reservations

Interested in reserving a time slot at the sports courts? Check out our new online reservation system to reserve an hour of play.

To reserve, click on "Sports Courts" and select from the following courts: Tennis/Pickleball, Beach Volleyball, and Basketball.

As a reminder, court priority goes to league games and special Ignite court events. All Sport Courts participants must be registered with Ignite BioFitness.

June 10th: New Climbing Routes

Starting Monday, June 10th, we will have new climbing routes available for your enjoyment. For those members that are interested in climbing but have not completed the climbing orientation, please connect with Kara@ignitebiofitness.com to set up your safety training.

June 14th: Submit Your Team for Beach Volleyball

Are you interested in playing in our 2024 beach volleyball league? Get your team together and nominate your captain before submitting your team entry by Friday, June 14th to sung@ignitebiofitness.com.

The anticipated league start date will be the week of July 15th-19th and will be a one game per week commitment. Prizes will be awarded to the league champions.

For those team members who want to brush up on their volleyball skills, email Kara@ignitebiofitness.com to join a beach volleyball skills and drills clinic!

GROUP FITNESS UPDATES

  • After 3 months of recovery from shoulder surgery, Suzi is back to teach her regular Tuesday Total Body class and Thursday TRX classes at noon. A big thank you to Tiffany and Alys for covering her classes while she was away

  • A warm welcome to Gabriel, who will be taking over Alys' Boot Camp classes on Monday from 4:30-5 pm and 5-5:30 pm. Join Gabriel for a 30-minute boot camp session or stay for a full hour if your schedule allows. We wish Alys well in her new position!

May 2024 Update

We hope you've been making the most of this beautiful weather and enjoying some exercise in the sunshine! We have lots of important updates to get to this month, but first some personnel notes:

  • Vincent will cover Laam's classes (POP Pilates, Kickboxing, Core & More and Zumba) and Isha will cover Sophia's classes (Yoga) while they're away in May. Sophia will also be subbing Asia's Yoga classes while she's out. You can check the online calendar for all class updates.

  • Welcome back Elijah to the front desk following his 3-month study abroad experience in Italy! A big thank you to all the front desk subs that stepped in while he was away.

Also, please note that Ignite BioFitness will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day.

Here's What's Happening in May...

NEW IN RECOVERY: The Dry Sauna

The Dry Sauna is now available for 1-hour reservations from 7 am to 7:45 pm. Reservations must be made in advanced to allow for heating prep time for your appointment. The dry sauna is located in the pool area, so a bathing suit is recommended for use. Grab the water bucket and ladle at the front desk to elevate your experience!

Here are a few other protocols to consider when using the dry sauna:

  • Please do not wear any outdoor shoes in the dry sauna.

  • Water for the bucket must be filled from the locker room and not the pool.

  • Cold plungers may need access to the sauna during your appointment time.

NEW IN RECOVERY: The Cold Plunge

Now also available is our new Cold Plunge, also located in the pool area. A cold-water immersion tutorial is required for first-time users from a staff member to ensure safety and proper use.

Cold Plunge reservations for first-time users are available online from 7 am to 1 pm. Afternoon and evening appointments will be available in the coming weeks.

May 9th: Beach Volleyball Prep Series

Join Sung outside on the sports courts (basketball court) weekly on Thursdays to prime your body for our next league sport - Beach Volleyball - which will start in July.

This 8-week class series will begin on May 9th and end on June 27th. Class programming will also be available on our site so you can follow along if you miss a class.

May 13th: Rooftop Dance Fusion

Join Ting on Monday, May 13th for a 45-minute Dance Fusion class on the rooftop. Take in the views, sun and fresh air while you elevate your energy and heart rate in this popular 45-minute class. Sunglasses, sunscreen and water are recommended as shade will be limited.

May 15th: Spring/Summer Mixer

Menlo Park Labs will be hosting a Spring/Summer Mixer on May 15th from 3:30-5:30 pm, next door at Eats at 1440 - grab a workout then stop by for some delicious food, drinks and more!

May 17th: Register for Our June Corn Hole Tournament

Join us for our first-ever corn hole tournament on Thursday, June 6th on the beach volleyball court! Awards and light refreshments will follow on the day of the tournament.

Team submissions are due by Friday, May 17th - find a friend and enter a team of two for the event by emailing names to sung@ignitebiofitness.com.

May 21st: Barbell Basics with Sung - The Deadlift

Build your strength from the ground up in our barbell lifting series! These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell and want to learn how to do lifts properly under the watchful eye of an instructor.

This month, the deadlift is back by request! Sung will instruct another deadlifting session on Tuesday, May 21st from 12-1 pm in the spin room. Sung, a national level weightlifter, will give you an overview of proper deadlift technique and provide feedback on your form.

There is no cost for this event; however, space is limited to 8 people.

April 2024 Update

Spring is finally here, and it's time to get outside and enjoy the offerings of the Sports Courts at Menlo Park Labs!

Whether you're interested in beach volleyball, basketball, tennis or pickleball, Ignite BioFitness has all the equipment you need for outdoor play. Ask our reception team to exchange ID for a basketball, volleyball or pickleball set for the duration of your game. (Please keep in mind that league play takes priority of the court.)

Also a reminder that Ignite BioFitness has an updated mobile app. Please visit the Apple or Google Play app store to update your app.

Here's What's Happening in April...

April 1st-5th: Dodge Ball Tournament

Come out and watch our first outdoor league event of the year on the basketball courts the week of April 1st-5th at 12 pm.

Seven teams will battle it out over the course of the week for the title of Dodgeball Champions and bragging rights in Menlo Park Labs!

April 11th: Total Body Outdoor Class

With the weather heating up, what better way to enjoy the outdoors than with a total body workout? Join us Thursday, April 11th at 12 pm in the rear parking lot for a total body class with Alys. Shade is limited, so please plan ahead with sun protection and a water bottle.

April 12th: Submit Your Team for Basketball League

Are you interested in putting together a company basketball team for some friendly competition in Menlo Park Labs? Please submit your team rosters and team captain to Sung (Sung@ignitebiofitness.com) by Friday, April 12th. Starting in early May, each team will be scheduled to play once a week. Prizes will be awarded to the league champions!

April 23rd: Barbell Basics with Sung - The CLEAN

Build your strength from the ground up in our barbell lifting series! These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell and want to learn how to do lifts properly under the watchful eye of an instructor.

This month's one-hour session will be Tuesday, April 23rd at 12 pm, featuring the CLEAN. Sung, a national level weightlifter, will give you an overview of proper barbell clean technique and provide feedback on your form.

And the Winner Is...

Kara competed at the Masters National Championships in Reno last month and outlifted all her competitors in her age and weight category! She received three gold medals for the snatch, clean and jerk and total, and was awarded the title of 2024 Masters National Champion.

A big thanks to Sung who programmed Kara's training leading into her competition.

Here's What's Happening in March...

March 1st: Body Scan Promo

For the month of March, we are offering $10 off the SECA body scan. For $20 you can get a full report on your body fat percentage, fat mass, fat free mass, skeletal mass and a few other components. This summary will give you a baseline of where you are starting your fitness journey and help to guide your next steps.

Email kara@ignitebiofitness.com to schedule your appointment today. To receive the $20 promotion, all appointments must be scheduled by Friday, March 29th.

March 11th: New Climbing Routes Available

Starting Monday, March 11th, we will have new climbing routes available for our climbing wall. Come on in and try them!

As a reminder, Ignite BioFitness' safety orientation must be completed in order to be eligible to climb. Please email kara@ignitebiofitness.com to set up your appointment if you haven't already done so.

March 12th: Group Fitness Schedule Changes

Starting March 12th, while Suzi is recovering from surgery, you will notice her Tuesday and Thursday classes have swapped places, with temporary instructors stepping in during her recovery:

  • Tuesdays at noon will now feature TRX with Tiffany

  • Thursdays at noon will now feature Total Body with Alys

In addition to the above changes, please be aware of the following room changes:

  • Yoga on Tuesday evenings at 5pm will now take place in the spin room

  • POP Pilates and Kickboxing will be held in the group fitness studio.

March 15th: Submit Your Team for Dodgeball

We will be hosting our first ever Dodgeball Tournament in April!

If you're interested in participating in our week-long, lunchtime tournament, submit your team roster of 6-8 players to Sung@ignitebiofitness.com by Friday, March 15th. Please also list the team captain who will be responsible for communicating all event updates.

Game play is *tentatively* planned for the week of April 1-5th from 12-1pm on the basketball court between 1505 O'Brien Drive and 1525 O'Brien Dr.

Build your strength from the ground up in our barbell lifting series! These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell and want to learn how to do lifts properly under the watchful eye of an instructor.

This month's one-hour session will be Tuesday, March 26th at 12pm in the spin room. Sung will take you through an introductory class on the press and other press variations, where you'll build your overhead strength through a series of progressions.

Here's What's Happening in February...

February 1st: Appointments Now Available for Wellness Room

As of February 1st, we will now be offering appointments for the Wellness Room, located on the second floor.

The Wellness Room is a private space for our members to enjoy for up to an hour of meditation and recovery. We've also added a Theragun percussive massager and Normatec air pressure massager boots to the space as additional methods of muscle recovery.

For reservations, click on the new "Recovery" tab on our website or ask the front desk for details and availability.

February 6th: Paws for Purple Hearts is Back

Paws for Purple Hearts, a non-profit that provides service dogs and canine-assisted therapy programs for Veterans and Active-Duty Service Members, will be making a reappearance at Ignite BioFitness on Tuesday, February 6th from 11am to 12:30pm to allow their assistance dogs to train in a gym environment.

Please be advised that you may want to consider a different gym time during this small window if you have any allergies or anxieties related to dogs.

February 13th: Barbell Lifting Series - Deadlifts Class

We encourage you to cheer on your fellow co-workers, but for safety reasons please stay out of the climbing area, as only up to five participants are allowed in the climbing area at a time.

Upcoming Fat Loss Webinar: Quick Survey!

Ignite BioFitness is planning to host a Fat Loss Webinar in December, and we'd like to know which date/time works best for you.

If you're interested in this one-hour session, click here to vote for your preferred date and time. We'll select a date based on survey responses.

November 7th: Kickboxing Class Moving to 5pm

Please note a schedule change to Tuesday's Kickboxing group fitness class starting November 7th: the class has been moved from 4pm to 5pm, and it will now be a 45-minute class located in the spin room. Yoga and Kickboxing will take place simultaneously from 5 to 5:45pm. Pick your preferred class and sign up in advance.

November 13th: New Climbing Routes

We'll be updating our climbing routes in November, and new routes will be available starting Monday, November 13th.

November 14th: Barbell Lifting Series - The Romanian Dead Lift

Join Sung on Tuesday, November 14th at 12pm for an introduction to the Romanian Deadlift (RDL) with the barbell for glute strength.

In this one-hour session, Sung will give you an overview of how to perform the RDL correctly, with feedback on your form.

November 15th: K-POP with Laam

K-POP is back! Join Laam on Wednesday, November 15th for another flash K-POP dance session (in place of Zumba) at 5:30pm. This fun and energetic 45-minute class will keep you moving to the beat of popular Korean music.

November 30th: Deadline for Team Climbing Competition

Ignite BioFitness will be hosting its second annual team climbing event from December 4th-8th. This week-long team climbing challenge will consist of routes with a designated point system, and each lap completed will receive points. Points will be tallied daily and averaged based on the team size.

If you're interested in putting a company team together, please email kara@ignitebiofitness.com to register your team.

The deadline for team entries is Wednesday, November 30th. If a team member has not yet completed the climbing orientation, they must do so by December 1st.

If you'd like to participate and don't have a company team, Kara will help place you on a team!

October 2023 Update

Here's What's Happening in October...

October 2-27: Walktober is Back

It's time to get up and get more steps in for our Walktober Challenge!

From Monday, October 2nd through Friday, October 27th, during your work week, track your steps each week (4 weeks total). We will add up the steps and see who comes out on top! The top three participants will receive prizes.

October 5: Yoga with Sophia

Due to popular demand, we have decided to add Yoga at noon with Sophia on Thursdays for a trial run in October.

The first class will be on Thursday, October 5th at 12pm - class will be held in the spin room and is limited to 6 participants.

If participation remains steady, we will consider keeping it on the group fitness calendar moving forward. This class will take place simultaneously with Suzi's TRX class.

October 11: K-Pop Flash Dance Class

Join Laam on Wednesday, October 11th at 5:30pm for a cardio dance class to K-Pop music (this will replace our usual Zumba class).

This fun and energetic 45-minute class will keep you moving to popular Korean tunes.

Kara Wins Silver at the USA Weightlifting Competition

Kara had a great day on the platform at the USA Weightlifting national event in Pleasanton on September 17th. She made 3 out of 3 attempts in the snatch, finishing with 77 kg (170 lbs), and 2 out of 3 attempts in the clean and jerk, finishing with 88 kg (194 lbs), just barely missing her last attempt with 91 kg (200 lbs).

Overall, she placed 2nd in the Masters division in her weight class, with 3 silver medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and total placing. Sung decided to remove himself from the competition but took over in a coaching role instead.

Congratulations Kara!

September 2023 Update

We hope you're gearing up for some fun over the Labor Day weekend!

On that note, Ignite BioFitness will be closed on Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day. Regular gym hours will resume on Tuesday.

Here's What's Happening in September...

September 20: Fall Into Fitness Challenge

With the summer coming to an end, what better way to maximize your time outdoors than joining Ignite's end of summer outdoor fitness challenge?

On Wednesday, September 20th, grab a friend and head to the tennis court behind 1505 O'Brien Drive. Team entries consist of 2 participants for this energizing 45-minute bodyweight workout lead by Arielle and Tiffany. They will guide you through a circuit that will challenge you and your partner!

Points will be accumulated based on completed repetitions between you and your partner.

Please submit your team entry to kara@ignitebiofitness.com by Friday, September 15th.

September 21: Barbell Back Squats Class

Our Barbell Basics Series is back by popular demand!

Sung will start us off in September with Barbell Back Squats on Thursday, September 21st from 12-1pm. He'll go through an overview of proper squatting technique and give you feedback on your form.

These sessions are for members who would like an introduction to the barbell or want to learn how to do the lifts properly under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor.

Ignite Staff on the National Stage

Best of luck to Kara and Sung who will be competing in a USA Weightlifting national event in Pleasanton on September 17th at the Alameda County Fairgrounds!

There are over 700 competitors registered for this Olympic weightlifting event, who will compete in their respective weight classes and age categories.
